Edward Martinez

Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, the son of a commercial artist and grandson of an accomplished musician, Edward Martinez (Argentine) now makes his home in rural Connecticut. His studied at Parsons, the New School for Design, the Pratt Institute, the School of Visual Arts, and with noted painter, Burton Silverman.

Martinez has been commissioned for a range of commercial and private projects, from advertising and portraiture to children’s books. His works reflect a contemporary view of subject matter, a documentation of present-day scenes, and a fastidious attention to detail.

A social and cultural documentarian, his style is reminiscent of artists such as Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Honoré Daumier, and Georges Seurat.

Martinez’s clients include, among others, Ralph Lauren, Lord & Taylor, Heineken, Dos Equis, AT&T, and the National Labor Day Foundation. His paintings have been used by numerous publishers, such as Putnam, William Morrow, Houghton Mifflin, and Harcourt Brace. The success of his children’s book Too Many Tamales secured an invitation to Washington D.C.’s Kennedy Center Book Fair, where the book was a featured offering.

In addition to his numerous gallery shows in New York and Connecticut, Martinez paint portraits and does landscape commissions. He also paints ''en plein air'' in and around the hills of Litchfield County, CT, and on trips to his native Argentina.
