     Madeleine Delfosse  (1909 - 1985) :

Madeleine Delfosse: Born in Montreal, Quebec, (1909 - 1985 )  born April 5, 1909, the daughter of Georges Delfosse, artist, she studied six years at Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Montreal, under J. St. Charles; and with her father.

Biographical Index of Artists in Canada; Dictionary of Canadian Artists, vol. 1, pp. 604a-605a; Early Women Artists.

She is a painter of portraits and landscapes - her portraits include: Maurice Duplessis, former Premier of Quebec; Hon. William Tremblay, Quebec parliamentarian; Dr. B.G. Bourgeois, Chief Surgeon of Notre-Dame Hospital, Montreal; Arthur Gagnon, a founder of the Société St. Jean Baptiste; Henri Pontriand, Canadian lyrics artist; Mrs. Elsa Konder, wife of a Brazilian Consul; Adheiman Raynault, a former mayor of Montreal; Georges Gayou, Secretary of the Académie Française de Paris, France.

In her mural for the St. Pierre Claver Church, Montreal, she used as models the seven vicars of the church to represent the seven apostles, only adding beards to their clean-shaven faces to be more in keeping with the time when Jesus was alive.

The Saint-Pierre-Claver Church in Montreal features a neo-Renaissance Italian decor by Madeleine Delfosse in 1947.
These paintings are the work of a woman, Madeleine Delfosse, daughter of the famous Georges Delfosse who produced paintings for the Church of Saint-Nom-de-Jésus and the Cathedral Basilica Marie-Reine-du-Monde.
Madeleine Delfosse (born in 1909), daughter of the painter Georges Delfosse, executed all the monumental paintings constituting the painted decoration of the Saint-Pierre-Claver church in Montreal (completed in 1917).
By its extent, it is the most important contribution of a woman to the monumental decoration. That said, to others, like Sylvia Daoust (born in 1902), who carved wooden liturgical works, and Gabrielle Messier (1904-2003), close collaborator of Ozias Leduc, he returns to have accomplished decorations more refined, according to L. Lacroix.
